Surfing

Surfing is the mother of all boardsports and although it has been practised since centuries it did not lose one bit of fascination. No other watersport lets you feel the power and beauty of the ocean.

Portugal and specially the West Algarve offer some of best surf spots of Europe. A great numbers of beaches and wind protected bays, the warm climate and the consistent Atlantic swells make it a perfect all-year surfing destination. The summer is great for beginners and intermediate surfers because the waves are not as powerful. The winter is the best time for seasoned surfers since the ocean delivers strong winter swells which result in wave faces regularly higher than 6-8 foot. Beginners find at that time good waves at the south coast.

When you look at experienced surfers the ride on the wave does not seem to be difficult. But who tried it knows that it takes a lot of practice, endurance and determination to ride the first wave.
